The Collins household had been growing for a long time now. While everyone was feeling the pressure of the increasingly crowded space in the house, it was taking a toll on Camden and Michelle’s relationship. Newly engaged, Michelle was anxious to start a whole new chapter of her life with Camden. One night they got into their first real argument. Michelle was more angry than Camden, as Camden kind of liked the full house that was the Collins household at this time.
However, Michelle was making it abundantly clear that the situation needed a solution soon, or she might just get feed up enough to leave. It wasn’t that Michelle didn’t like Camden’s family; it was just getting to be too much.
“This house is getting way too crowded Camden,” Michelle said sternly, pointing her finger and setting her face into an accusatory look. “You are a doctor, for goodness sake. How long should it really take for us to be able to afford a nice home of our own?”
Camden was taken aback by this outburst because Michelle was always the steady one in the relationship. He took a moment to process her words, and then slowly sat up and walked to the other side of the bed. Michelle turned around to look at him.
“Well?” Michelle’s voice was taken down a notch from a minute ago because she sensed Camden’s uneasiness. Michelle moved to the other side of the bed so Camden could sit back down.
Camden sat down, laid back and stretched out on the bed.
“Are you going to talk to me? I do love you Camden.” Michelle was still frustrated but trying to calm down.
Camden took another moment and then decided what he wanted to say to help the situation.
“I love you too Michelle. You just caught me off guard is all. I guess I didn’t realize how much it really bothered you. I’m sorry.” Camden could see Michelle’s face start to calm even more and the air was less tense already.
“I’m sorry too. I know how close you are with your family, and I love them too. I have known them practically my whole life. I just want the space for us to start our lives as our own little family, with kids someday.”
Camden smiled and replied, “I want that too sweetie. And very soon we will have it.”
And just like that, everything seemed back to normal and they went to sleep. And the next day, they were back to themselves.
Camden was close to being a very successful, full-fledged doctor. In a few months, his good reputation as a doctor spread, and he also became a well-respected surgeon.
