CHAPTER 5 – “Reconciliation and Meeting Darling”
After Kaylin and Akira’s first official date things seemed better and Kaylin was more relaxed. She started thinking about the streaming she was doing with games and wanted to expand soon to do more like vlogs, product reviews, and more. That would take saving up some more money from her job which was still going well. Just be patient, she told herself. Kaylin did sometimes rush things which is part of why she loved the hustle and bustle of city life. On the other hand she knew balance was important as well. Anyway, she still had to talk to Miko. As Miko asked, Kaylin was planning on going over soon. The weekend was coming back up and she decided Saturday was a good day to have the heart-to-heart with Miko. The weekend came and Kaylin headed over to Akira and Miko’s place. Akira greeted her with a peck on the cheek and explained Miko was waiting for her in the kitchen.
Kaylin entered the kitchen and Miko was sitting there already with a chocolate snack for Kaylin as indicated by her pointing to the seat it was in front of. As Kaylin sat down at the table and Miko smiled at her, Miko said, “This is for you if you want it. Let me just say I’m sorry and I’ve missed you. Now to talk about the uneasiness you felt when all three of us hung out. Listen, it wasn’t that I was mad and I don’t know if I even realized what it was until Akira brought it up to me. I know you tried to see what was bothering me but since I didn’t know I couldn’t tell you what it was. See Akira and I go way back and he has always been there for me and when I felt what I thought was him pulling away I took it the wrong way in that he didn’t want to hang out with me as much. So I guess it made me feel resentment towards both of you in a way and when we all hung out it spilled over and overwhelmed me, even though I didn’t realize it. When Akira finally brought this up, I guess I also found it more comfortable talking about it with him and all of a sudden I was being all mushy about how much we used to spend time together, even when Akira was dating in the past. It was never about feeling in love with him or anything but I was just afraid the one best friend I had all these years was losing interest in being my best friend. Again, I’m sorry I pushed both of you away. I would love it if we could forget how it’s been lately and still be friends.”

Kaylin grinned and replied, “Of course Miko. No worries. And you’re sure you don’t have any of those kind of feelings for Akira right? I would feel terrible if you did and were hiding it just to not upset anyone. I just want to make sure because I want the same thing you do.”
Miko grinned right back. “Very sure. In fact, I think this is the real deal for Akira. He’s smitten with you like I haven’t seen before.”

Kaylin blushed a little and then they heard footsteps come into the kitchen. Kaylin turned to see their teen roommate and Miko introduced them.
“Kaylin this is Darling. Darling, this is Kaylin my friend. I’ve talked about you a little to her already,” Miko smiled. This was true. Both Akira and Miko were very fond of Darling and took her in when she had nowhere to go after her parents kicked her out for being bi.
Kaylin rose out of her seat with her tasty snack and greeted Darling. The three of them talked for a while before Darling said they had to go. Kaylin and Darling seemed to bond a little over parents not understanding them as Kaylin’s parents never understood what Kaylin was about either and didn’t approve of the city or her career choice.

“She seems to like you Kaylin,” Miko observed after Darling left.
“Yeah she’s a cool kid. I best be on my way though. Got some streaming to do. I’m glad we talked and worked things out.”
“Me too.”
As Kaylin finished her snack she put the plate in the sink and she started to head towards the front door, once out of earshot of Miko, Darling appeared and said, “Hey can I talk you Kaylin? I really enjoyed our talk but would like to talk more with you alone. Miko and Akira are nice and everything but they don’t get the whole ‘different than their parents and parents don’t understand them type deal’.”
“Sure, let’s talk.”
So for the next hour Kaylin and Darling talked in Miko’s and her room.

A few weeks later and Kaylin and Miko are still doing fine.
